solitary jerk and hates bees (which make up a lot of the workforce because they are numerous as crap and dedicate their entire lives to working so they're kind of everywhere and take a lot of jobs. better make sure nobody interprets that as some kind of dumb as hell metaphor for foreign folks finding work in america). blue mud dauber, a solitary (no hive) species of wasp. they prey on black widows, and reuse the nests of other types of daubers (do something with this, maybe a cute thing about living in a recently owned apartment or something)
working name is daria dauber?? she's a detective. tall, slender (hourglass shape to evoke the two-segmented body of daubers). perhaps modify outfit to be visually interesting and more modest/classy for the workplace. short rounded hair meant to evoke the head shape of a wasp. she has wings but does she fly?? that would be interesting (and having to ferry her non-flying partner around perhaps).


bumblebee girl that belongs to a hive (what does a hive mean in this society? have not figured that out). demure and sunny to the point of it being irritating. doesn't like to impose but she's always SO HAPPY TO SEE DARIA!! even if daria is not so happy. i think she's a rookie cop who keeps showing up at daria's crime scenes.


daria's partner is a male black widow. he's short and chubby and easily intimidated, wears some kind of brown suit with a white tie meant to evoke the hourglass.

male black widows are smaller than lady counterparts and also tend to get eated (maybe do something with this, a black widow coworker who teases him). he could be a longtime desk jockey who only just now got moved up to detective, or a relative newcomer outright.
working name is bradley black but that sounds kind of dumb and also hotel dusk


male painted lady (species of butterfly) is the police chief, kind of a jerk, strict on his employees and kind of an exaggerated 'barking commands' type, wears a suit that is patterned after butterfly coloration. tough and well built.

he will flay you if you make a joke about him being a lady (especially since his last name is lady. chief lady.)

can usually be seen stuffing his face with pollen ("MRF NAMF ARMF GDAMN LOVE THIS PRIME @#$ POLLEN")
