Project REDLINE Please note that this project is meant to be a secret until its debut so
if you are Gaia user also on VDex, please refrain from commenting about
this project anywhere else besides in this thread until then. Thank you. Introduction for Artists Who Have Received an Invitation In about 2 week's time, a special project that I've been planning for a while now will be launched in the Pricings and Suggestions subforum on Gaia Online.
Within the project are experienced artists on and off Gaia (ie, art student, art major, art grad, freelance artist, professional artist of some subfield, etc) who have generously offered to dedicate their time to helping new/inexperienced/curious artists of the Gaian community improve their skills and build their experience as official Project RedLine art mentors. Selected artists have already been sent invitation packages and those who accept will be placed within a category representing their art specialty or preference. This is to make it easier for the students to request a specific mentor and to emphasize that this entire project is simply a joint effort by artists, for artists. It is absolutely NOT a showcase of artists exercising their 'authority'. Also, please keep in mind that art mentors are students too -- we're all in the process of developing our individual styles derived from different inspirations.
If in doubt, please review the rules below.
The following rules and regulations will be implanted to ensure the success of this project. Information The concept of Project Redline was inspired by my desire to help the curious artists of Gaia; it is for those of us who have ever once asked an artist we admire and respect, "what tools do you use to draw", "how long have you been drawing", or "how do you create that certain magical effect that I've been wanting to master since forever". The idea also spawned from the 'Art Mentors Guild on Gaia' that I was and still am a part of, but has since lost activity. This project is also meant to be a more comprehensive and visually effective alternative to the 'price my art' threads in the Pricings and Suggestions subforum. Also, a big thank you to our mentors for their support!
Selection of mentors is based on my, other trusted artists', and the Gaian art community's professional opinions (and stalkage) of the artist's experiences, skills (which includes their unique style and their versatility), personality, professionalism, and their suspected schedule during the time this project will be active. Another goal of this project is to recruit mentors from as many different areas as possible, as art is such a wide field and I sincerely wish to convince the Gaian community that there is so much more to it than the kawaii-desu art (for lack of better wording and for those familiar with Gaian art terminology) that seems to have been over-populating the forums and underrating many talented artists for a while now.
As this project depends on the volunteered efforts and time of the mentors, they will work at their own pace to help their students. Students who have a problem with this will be promptly expelled. I suggest you reconsider applying for studentship if you aren't a fan of patience. On another note, I'll personally make sure that I'm properly informed of any disputes or disagreements involving any student or mentor. I won't hesitate to reprehend anyone who chooses to be disrespectful for no good reason. It other words, COME AT ME BRO.

Becoming a Student- You must become a Project RedLine Student before you can request a service from a Project RedLine mentor, unless stated otherwise. Membership is, of course, free and open to anyone who is interested in learning from a mentor. (Don't be shy, we don't bite!) But, like their mentors, students must also be willing to give up some of their time to learn.
- To become an official Project RedLine Student, please fill out the following form completely and correctly, and then post it in the thread for consideration. If you have any questions, please ask before submitting the form.
- Upon your acceptance, you will be given a Student ID Card, which may be placed in your signature as proof of studentship. You will also be permanently listed in our public Student Master List.
- Please pay particular attention to the "Studying" line of the form, as you will only be able to request for services from the mentors in the categories you are enlisted in.
- Project RedLine Mentors are automatically given all the privileges of a student after receiving their Mentor ID Card. However, they still have to fill out a form if they wish to request a service from another mentor.

After you receive your student ID card, you may begin requesting services from our mentors.
Project RedLine focuses on visual learning. The following is a list of ways through which a Project RedLine mentor may help you. Note that mentors are free to choose their own methods of tutoring and therefore may or may not offer any one of the services below. Please review your desired mentor's ID Card before submitting your request in the thread.
- Redlines - n. An informal sketch over another person's piece of art to point out and correct flaws. The sketch is usually in red. Recommended for students with a good amount of drawing experience.
- Livestream Sessions - Live; watch your mentor show you the tricks of the trade! Recommended for everyone, but especially helpful for students with little amount of drawing experience, or for those who are curious about different art programs and software. There's also a chatbox available for questions during the livestream.
- P-Chat Sessions - Live; these are very similar to the Livestream sessions, but the key difference is that you may draw WITH your mentor, live. Like Livestream, there's also a chatbox available. However, since P-Chats are public drawing boards, please be aware that there may be other users in the room. Recommended for everyone, but P-Chat drawing software may take some time to get used to for first-time users.
- Advice - Comprehensive constructive criticism, whether it relates to the mentor's specialty, art in general, gaia art trends and economics, or anything else the mentor may choose to disclose. This type of request can be answered by anyone, as long as the information given is accurate. Essentially, whoever sees the question first can answer, but whereas users may or may not put the effort into posting a reply, a mentor will always do so. You DO NOT need to be a student to request for this. This is the only exception.
Note that most of these services will be done online. For example, you may submit your scanned traditional sketch for a Redline, but the actual redlining by the mentor will be done digitally.
For Redlines, Livestreams, and P-Chats, use Form One. For Advice, use Form Two.
You may submit ONE request for ONE service at a time, unless you're seeking advice. The current request must be completed before another may be submitted.

Mentor Categories There are a total of 6 mentor categories which the mentors have associated themselves with. This is simply for organizational purposes so as to make it easier for the students to request for services (particularly Livestreams and P-Chats) from specific mentors.
