Yun wrote: ☁ Most routes "The routes of Kanto and Johto are connected, and therefore they are numbered in a uniform sequence. Hoenn and Sinnoh, however, are connected by land neither to each other nor to the other two regions - thus, their routes are differently numbered."
☁ In a town "Though demographics and area are generally a parameter for deciding whether or not a place should be considered a "town", in some areas, urbanization is a more important parameter, which results in certain cities being significantly smaller than rural towns."
☁ Route near a town "It is rather peculiar how there used to be plenty of common Pokémon found near the smallest town in every region. Perhaps the weaker Pokémon gathered near such places to protect themselves from being harmed by experienced trainers."
☁ In a city "Cities are generally considered to be demographically larger and more urbanized than towns, although the notion of "urbanized" tends to vary depending on the place. A historical city may not be urbanized by modern standards, but it is still a city." "In most regions, Gyms and Marts are located, primarily, in large cities. Naturally, exceptions do exist, but they are few in comparison. It also seems customary for one city in each region to have a large, several-storied department store that caters to all kinds of professionals."
☁ Places near water "I personally am not very fond of places with much water. I find the elevated atmospheric humidity to be a tad bothersome. Regardless, the view tends to be pleasant - but I would much prefer to only travel through these places in passing."
☁ Gifts "This Ultra Ball seems useful. Perhaps you would like to have it?"

Entries: I|II|III|IV|V|VI|VII ❤ Journals: 10th Week. . . . Oғ cιτιᴇs ιηvιsιвʟᴇ τᴏ sᴇᴇ ❤ . . .
❝ Arriving at each new city, the traveler finds again a past of his that he did not know he had: the foreignness of what you no longer are or no longer possess lies in wait for you in foreign, unpossessed places. ❞
 . . . ❤ { 05.07.2012 } . . . . . Events Until Now
This Journal has taken quite some time to arrange & my journeys have kept me occupied. I will try to provide as faithful a resumé of my travels so far as possible.
I began my journey a little over two weeks ago with the companionship of Yun. Although he can be overly verbose at times, Yun seems to be a pleasant enough companion; plus, his wide-connections and broad-knowledge have proved very helpful when trading with local merchants. Yun and I are becoming fast friends - a week ago, he presented me with an Ultraball, a gift which I was only too happy to accept.
Perhaps I am a little too restless: my companions and I have crossed the sea 4 times since the beginning of our journey. However, there is so much to see and taste and feel, that I cannot help but feel that the crossings were not in vain. Of the cities we have visited, Castelia is the most beautiful.
I have also begun to form a nursery of sorts: picking up various stray baby pokémon as I encounter them during my travels. I have already amassed a variety of togepi of various flavours, although I did not encounter an original pure-bred until one serendipitously came toddling up to me today in White Forest. My nursery also includes an adorable cleffa, a continuously tantrum-throwing bonsly, a mischievous mime jr. who insists on turning the entire nursery upside down, & a bizarre little munna who seems to prefer the solitude of her dream mist to the companionship of the other children.
I've also become quite the shepherd over the course of this journey. A passing traveler left a flock of mareep in my care. Although I was initially quite hesitant about taking on such a large burden, they have come to grow on me, & I find myself unwittingly adding to my little flock. Plus, the children love them and their warm woolen coats.
My first friend, King Triton, an imposing Empoleon who is constantly keeping a careful eye on the troublesome nursery, has recently achieved his 100th level. In celebration of the event, we organized a small party with some Old Gateau, Rare Candies, and Berries from my portable greenhouse-garden (very 21st century). The children were especially excited as they were allowed to stay up past midnight in honor of the festive occasion.
No journey can be completed without the aid of other travelers. Early in my journey, I received the kindness of Amaoto, a gentle lover of flowers who provided me with shelter and supplies during a time of need. She also entrusted Cinderella, an easy-going young Cyndaquil to my care, along with a mysterious egg. The egg eventually hatched into an eerily colored Litwick who delights in floating around the camp, deranging the children and the flock.
Perhaps one of the most magical encounters of my journey thus far is Feu Bleu, my calm Ponyta. His owner, a horse trader with some reputation, gifted him to me in exchange for my help (or more exactly, Yun's help) in procuring a number of high quality supplies which the trader was in need of. I fell immediately in love with Feu Bleu's steady gaze and flaming blue mane. Perhaps when he is older, I will bring him to a horse-stable to breed, for I would love to have some of his colts for my own.
That is all that I can resouvenir (as the French say) at this moment. I will add more to this record tomorrow.

. . . . Oғ cιτιᴇs ιηvιsιвʟᴇ τᴏ sᴇᴇ ❤ . . .
❝ The ideal place for me is the one in which it is most natural to live as a foreigner. ❞
. . . ❤ { 05.08.2012 } . . . . . Entry IINot much has happened on my journey today. Together with Yun, my caravan, the flock, & the children, I made the transition to the region of Johto. Immediately upon setting foot on Johto's shores, I was welcomed by a family of sentret, who, I must admit, are quite adorable. A few of them longed for adventure & decided to join my little group of travelers.
There are also two new members to my flock: de Chavignol & Brocciu. Both promise to be quite troublesome additions: de Chavignol is always rushing ahead of the rest of the flock, forcing King Triton to constantly rush off in order to ensure that he doesn't become lost or, Arceus forbid, become the dinner of some hungry Houndour. Brocciu is a little troublemaker, tripping the other members of the flock and hiding behind large bushes when it is time for the flock to return to the caravan and sleep. Together, she and Petit-four (the Mime Jr.), are more than Yun & I can deal with.
I have updated a section of this Journal to keep a running list of the comments Yun makes during our journey. He is always lecturing about some aspect of our location or the other, and, I, unfortunately, have a tendency to just tune him out. But, his comments may prove helpful to other travelers, so I will endeavor to stay awake and take notes, like the diligent student I should be.

She & Fraise are already becoming close friends, her calmness keeping his impish inquisitiveness in check. However, she does have a mischievous side, which Yun & I are already constantly on guard for! I would never be able to keep this flock & all of the children safe and in control without Yun's futuresight (#thankArceusforpsychicpartners).

❝ ... even if the thread of their discourse is secret, their rules are absurd, their perspectives deceitful, and everything conceals something else. ❞
. . . ❤ { 05.08.2012 } . . . . . UPDATEYun found Sainte-Maure wandering alone outside of the Ruin of Alphs & brought him back to the caravan. Sainte-Maure is fairly shy, & has yet to really befriend any of the other members of the flock. However, he has exhibited a thoroughly cunning side. He probably thought that Yun & I weren't watching when he secretly snuck grain from his neighbor's portion.
The thief in question:

I have also been offered the care of a chingling by Nudi_Alf. He should be transferred into the Nursery within a few days. Both Yun & I are very excited to add to our growing Nursery full of children♥ It is currently undetermined whether the child will keep his original name or be given a new one. If Yun&I are responsible for re-naming him, I'm partial to Palmier♥.
mini-update: Palmier has entered my care♥ You should all be able to meet him soon!

. . . . Oғ cιτιᴇs ιηvιsιвʟᴇ τᴏ sᴇᴇ ❤ . . .
❝ Journal Prompt: Recall a time in your life when you made a big change. Was the change positive or negative? ❞ ❞
. . . ❤ { Life Through Words, 10th Week } . . . . . Mood: CalmOddly enough, I am having difficulty recalling a moment in which I was responsible for a significant change in my life. I have made significant decisions, yes. Significant changes have occurred, yes. But it is actually quite rare that the two events coincide.
There is one event, which does stand out as a turning point in my life, directly resulting from a conscious decision I had made. Although I had always been raised in the church, I did not grow up as part of a Christian household. In fact, until Easter of this year, I was the only Christian in my family of four. Immigrating to the United States in the early 1990s, my parents had received quite a lot of aid and warmth from the local Christian community (my father was a grad student at URI). Out of gratitude, my mother began to bring me & my younger sister to church, starting pretty much at birth.
So in a certain sense, I could be considered a church kid - I was never given any real cause to question the existence of God & Jesus, an existence which I took for granted, I grew up being able to recite John 3:16 at a moment's notice & sing all of the standard Sunday School & VBS songs (Milk, Father Abraham, Fruit of the Spirit), I sang in the church choir, I can hardly remember a time at which I did not know that the world was created in "seven days" & that Bob was a tomato & Larry was a cucumber (veggietales reference, ignore me). Yet, I was never completely a church kid. My mother went to church because my younger sister & I went to Sunday School, not the other way around. My family was never really an integral part of the community of any of the churches we attended. It is probably difficult for someone who hasn't had this experience to realize how difficult it is for a child to put down roots at a church if his/her parents are not part of the community. Perhaps because of this lack of roots, I ended up wandering from church to church in my childhood: from large mandarin church to small cantonese church to a white-american methodist church to a jehovah's witness bible study group back to a large mandarin church. Eventually, as my academic life began to become more demanding, I simply stopped going to church.
It wasn't until my senior year of high school that I returned to being a regular church-goer. During that time, I had strayed fairly far off the standard Christian path. As I had mentioned, I had participated in Bible study with a group of jehovah's witnesses. I had also practiced meditation with my parents as they tried out a Chinese-Buddhist-Pantheist religion that was spreading rapidly through our local Chinese community. At one point, I gave in to my fascination with fortune-telling (my mother's maternal grandfather had the Sight) & began dabbling in palmistry, horoscopes, & tarot cards. I remember bringing my cards to school & spending entire afternoons (post-AP exams finals period - a very chill time for AP students since we could opt out of finals) playing at fortune-telling with my classmates. This long period of wandering finally came to an end with my younger sister's surprising decision that she wanted to try the youth group of the first church I had ever "attended" in New Jersey: CCCS.
Although my younger sister has a surprisingly large social circle now that she is in high school, she was painfully shy while she was a middle-schooler. In order to help her feel more comfortable in the new church environment, I agreed to visit with her, for one time only. However, upon the first visit, I had such an intense sense of homecoming, I kept going back. There was something I had missed & something I had never found, which I finally caught a glimpse of during my second tenure at CCCS - a sense of community & a chance to explore my faith with like-minded peers. Through high-school, I had grown tired of having to constantly apologize for my religion to my classmates, to constantly explain that no, I don't believe the world was actually created in 7*24hrs & no, I don't hate the members of the lgbtq community (I attend an all women's college known for our activism for lgbtq rights for goodness' sake, I probably have more lgbtq friends in my dorm than most of them do in their whole campus). For the first time in a long time, I felt safe in my religion, a religion I had grown unfamiliar with.
Through the new community, I was able to reconnect with my faith and with my God & Savior, as well as form an understanding of the Christian religion which is built on a solid foundation of Biblical scholarship. As a student, this was a method of learning about God & His teachings which appealed to me - I was liberated from having to accept the bite-sized summations of the Bible's views on everything from feminism to crucifixes in courtrooms to kissing which I was being given by conservative Christian media & free to explore the implications of the Scripture using my own framework of understanding.
This reconnection could not have arrived at a more opportune time - in a few months, I would be leaving to begin my freshman year at college. For the first time in my life, I would no longer have the support of my very tight-knit family at every waking-hour of my day. Becoming a stronger Christian who is more firmly rooted in the church community provided a much-needed alternative. With this firm conviction in mind, I began to attend the baptismal classes offered at CCCS. Although I would be unable to continue to attend CCCS after my baptism (since I would be in an entirely different state), baptism would be an opportunity for me to make a conscious affirmation of my faith and a strong commitment to live by it, even in the midst of a college environment.
The decision was not an easy one. Although, on paper, the plusses outweighed the deltas, becoming a baptized Christian required me to make sacrifices which I was not sure I was ready to make. One of these sacrifices was to completely let go of my hobby of fortune-telling - to not even glance at a daily horoscope prognosis for the rest of my life. I know that putting a stop to tarot-reading & horoscope-checking does not appear to be a heavy burden; however, fortune-telling had been one of my core hobbies since ... well forever & my tarot cards had become an integral part of my life, just like my stuffed animals (I had owned them for about 2 years at this time). It wasn't easy.
But I knew I needed all of the support I could get before heading off to a completely foreign environment, so I made the promise to my pastor & I have kept it ever since.
I was baptized Easter 2009 (which totally dates me, if you're good at critical reading). The life-changing decision I made was really less the baptismal ceremony (there is really nothing very life-changing about getting dunked in a tub of warm water, unless you're water-phobic) than it was the process leading up to it & the steps I took walking away from it. Many Christians like to view baptism as a re-birth & celebrate their baptisms as a second birthday. I tend to also look at it as a marriage. By being baptized, you make a commitment to serve & love God as the church is called to serve & love Christ and a husband & wife are called to serve & love each other. This is a commitment to live your life for more than just yourself, starting with the day of your baptism. This is also a commitment to be obedient, even when obedience seems to be the most difficult course of action. Baptism isn't a commitment of a week or a month, or a year, or even a decade; it's a commitment of a lifetime, & that is quite frightening.
However, I have never regretted making that commitment. As a baptized Christian, I have learned more about myself and what I truly value. I have also become a better lover: of my friends, of my family, of the less fortunate, of those I disagree with, of anything with life, & of myself.
So, yes ♥, I would say the change was positive.
tl;dr version: Senior year I decided to get baptized. It was a pretty legit decision. I've become a better person.
