Wait...is there a BBC code for making a marquee left?

Cause I want to apply that to the Nyan Cat in my signature. :\

There is no way to use HTML equivalents in BBCode that aren't already provided by the site (so bolding, italics, underline, lists, images, URLs, font size/color, center alignment, right alignment and strikethroughs).

I am apparently an idiot because for the past several weeks I have been trying to figure out how to post an url and make it say my name. If Panda would be so kind as to send me step by step instructions on how to do this I would be very grateful. Thanks.

You mean linked words? For you it would be something like:

Code:
[url=www.yoururlhere.com]ray423[/url]

So taking a link in your sig:
Code:
[url=http://forum.vdexproject.net/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=16294]ray423[/url]

would turn out like this: ray423

So instead of the begining of the url looking like this :[url] it would look like this :[url= Is that what you mean?

This is really helpful! Thanks for making this!
Could you possibly add a section talking about making a link a different color?

Wow. Before this guide I had no idea about how BB code worked. Thanks!

Maybe I'll bookmark this. I probably will.

Ray: That is correct. It's so that you can put things in the middle such as a word or image to show as the link.

Sakuya: No prob. :D
I will do so. However, I'm not quite sure yet if that can work on Vdex. I know it works on another site I go on.

Kenneth: No prob! I'm glad you learned something. :]
Haha, go for it~ It'll be a great reference. ;D

jumping in to say that it's definitely possible~ i'm pretty sure that the colour tag just needs to be inside the url tag, though.

Okay, so generally the difference between BBC and HTML is the brackets used (HTML uses<>, and BBC uses[]), yes? Well, I've been using BBC so long that now I need a guide for HTML so I can send links through IE 8 which does not support BBC apparently! Would anyone be willing to send me a link or something?

The differences are more than just that. For example, a link in HTML is <a href="Link">Words</a>, while a link in BBCode is [url=link]Words[/url]. Also, the capabilities of HTML are much greater, though you can still do quite a bit with forum BBCode.

By sending links through IE8, do you mean you are trying to email someone a link? Or what? o3o

Yes! That's exactly what I mean. I have Internet Explorer 8 on windows and when I email anything, the BBC won't go through as a link. I tried to send something like: [url=urltext]text[/url] but it didn't go through. My friend sent me a very confused response. Hence the stupid sounding post. -.-'' I also read somewhere that the difference goes a little further. It said when you try to type something in BBC, use [] and when you strikethrough something you have to spell out the word strike inside the tags for BBC rather than just putting an "s" like in HTML.

If you're sending a link through email, you can always just post the link itself - many email providers automatically add the markup to make it into a clickable link, otherwise the person can just copy/paste it from the email.

BBCode is used almost exclusively by boards like this. It's a rigid and unforgiving type of coding language that allows for some customization, but not enough to break pages or interfere with the board's structure and integrity.

HTML is a basic coding language that's used to build pages and whatnot, and can also be used to structure things like profile pages or blog posts on many sites. Many HTML tags come from a "shorthand" language - "img src" is "image source" - which is why some things are very different from BBCode (which came about later and was simplified). A quick Google search for HTML guides will bring up a number of how-to guides, so you may want to look into that :)

In addition to most email providers automatically marking up URLs, there's a button for inserting hyperlinks. In hotmail, it's a globe with a chain link in front of it, but it generally looks something like that. A chain link, maybe with a globe.

Yeah, I get that. I was just trying it that way becuase if it had gone through, it would have saved room. It also would have looked a lot neater, and I'm extremely OCD. They really need to a medacine for it.

How do you get rid of the boxes that substitute missing/unknown characters? ;w;

You have to download and install a font pack that includes the missing characters.
