Either that, or just abandoning your team and running with one party member.
I totally wrecked HeartGold with my Heracross.
I did the same thing in SoulSilver with my Feraligatr.

Started working on LeafGreen for my ultimate challenge. It's kind of a pain that most fire-types don't come early in the game. I have three badges now, and my sole team member is a severely overleveled Charizard.

But I've found that most Pokémon games have a shallow pool of fire-types. Diamond and Pearl had a grand total of two fully-evolved fire-types.

Yeah, I can't even have a full team in LeafGreen without using two of one species or using Moltres. I've been given permission to do the latter by the owner of a UMC thread on another site, which is really where I'm focusing my efforts right now.

;( another mod?
I would've probably allowed the use of moltres too anyway, considering you'd only get to like 5 pokemon max or something in frlg

Currently doing a rock run on Emerald~
Team:
Graveler
Nosepass
Aron
Slugma
Solrock

I am getting a lileep for sure and I need a relicanth but I don't know who to replace. I honestly don't see a single pokemon that I can swap without opening up for weaknesses

If I were you, I'd switch out Slugma for Lileep (because Magcargo isn't that useful and I'm biased to Cradily), and not use Relicanth/only use Relicanth for a HM Slave, as Rock/Water has a lot of weaknesses, iirc.

Other than that, good luck!

Hey y'all! Just stopping by to visit. (:
Decided to take up the old UMC again during spring break! I'm working on Ruby now but I was thinking about Crystal...unfortunately the first fighting-type Pokémon doesn't appear for a very long time. :(
(Unless I were to use Gold, but it would still be until Mr. Mortar/Route 42).

*OR, I got very lucky and Headbutted a Heracross. But that wouldn't be until after Azalea Town.

I haven't had much motivation to work on LeafGreen, because grinding Vulpix to match Charizard's level is gonna be horrible. However, I do have a fun observation about my X team. I've been link battling friends with my in-game teams from X and Y, and my monotype X team has a better win/loss ratio than my more balanced Y team.

I've done my Y fir-type monotype run a while ago and it was cool. Though, it was very hard on the end against Diantha as I had only 3 Pokemon with me.

hi guys! long time no see.

so i'm doing an emerald flying-monotype run and i've got a team planned out, but i don't know what to do for a 6th team member(most likely for the E4). planned out team looks like this:

          pelipper
          crobat
          skarmory
          tropius
          salamence

          any suggestions?

I think a bug/flying like Ninjask or Masquerain would add diversity, or you could try a Dodrio from the safari zone. They hit really hard in 3rd gen with tri attack.

Hey there!

Looking back on my flying run that I completed a long time ago, I used the following:

- Altaria
- Swellow
- Pelliper
- Xatu
- Tropius
- Salamance

Though looking at it now, three members out of six were x4 weak to ice, which was not good. But I do remember my Xatu being a champ (it can somehow learn Giga Drain, which is pretty cool.)

          ahh thanks so much!

i was considering someone to deal with ice types since i have no team members(currently) that can learn fire type moves, and salamence won't be much help in the future. Dodrio might be a start, but I also like Xatu! I had a Ninjask towards the beginning of the game, but he wasn't getting much use so i ended up depositing him in the PC, so i don't think i'll be picking up a bug/flying type as the last unless syndney proves to be really hard, aha. thanks for the suggestion though!

I have a question oh mighty senpais!

Let's say you're doing the flying type challenge for first gen,
Is it okay to include charmander or magikarp in your party because
they will eventually become a flying type pokemon when they evolve? :3

          hi, lazyessence!

i believe so, since it's mentioned here in the FAQ:
          pocket wrote:

              Q. Can I use _____ if it is not the same type I have chosen, but will eventually evolve into it?
              A. Yes, this is perfectly fine! Evolution is unique way to obtain Pokemon -- for some, it is the only way to obtain them. So, as long as you make certain to evolve it at the earliest stage possible, you can use it.

so as long as you follow those guidelines, charmander/magikarp would definitely be allowed.
hope this is what you were looking for!

    @Battlerocket:

    OH! I didn't see that.
Thank you for pointing it out! c:
