Where are the appliances to get Rotom to possess? I was honestly under the impression that if you wanted to get a Rotom with a specific forme, you'd have to catch one with that particular forme (which I think is actually possible in X and Y).

It is true that you can find all the formes in the wild, but you can also take a Rotom to the second floor of Sycamore's lab and get it to possess an appliance.

Not only does Rotom keep its electric type no matter what forme it's in, it keeps Levitate as well. So the Mow, Frost, and Wash formes are totally viable options for countering ground. And aside from HP and attack, its base stats are pretty respectable when it's inside an appliance. I used Wash in my first Platinum run five years ago (wow it's been a while) with a moveset of Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Confuse Ray, and Hydro Pump, and it did some pretty serious damage. If I remember correctly, it was second only to my traded-in Shaymin in terms of levels.

Yes. They're all in a box in the bottom right corner of the second floor.

So, I'm at the second gym and I have so much hard time to get through the Trainers in it since they have rock Pokemon. I even got defeated by the first trainer because he had a damn Relicanth (Water/Rock is so hard to kill).

Now I have a Charmeleon and a Braixen that are powerfull, but not enough apparently and I also caught an Eevee that I already evolved into a Flareon, but it's so weak. Not ver good attacks. I guess doing a Fire run is very hard in XY.

The good thing about that gym is that you can avoid most of the trainers if you're careful. I still only got through because of Combusken, though.

Update on my challenge: I just beat Wulfric. There's a few TMs I want to grab before heading onwards to Victory Road, but other than that I'm feeling pretty confident about facing the E4, especially now that I have Rotom to help me against Siebold.

Challenge update the second: Challenge complete! The Elite Four and Champion were a walk in the park; I only had a Pokemon faint once, and it was a noble sacrifice that let my Chandelure finish the job on Mega Gardevoir.

I would like to take on the Ultimate Monotype Challenge, continuing to use fire, but first I'm going to do that water mono run in Hong Kong Gold. I've started an adventure blog for it, if anyone wants to follow me.

Both of you, congrats on beating the e4!
My Nuzlocke progress on X is going slowly. I just can't be bothered to advance the storyline. On the other side of things, I've tested that new theory about fishing for shinies, and it works. I've managed to get two shiny Pokémon (Horsea and Clauncher) through it.

For those interested, you're just supposed to keep fishing without getting the "Not even a nibble..." Or "No! You reeled it in too fast/slow!" messages. Each time you fish successfully, it raises your chance of getting a shiny. With a Pokémon with suction cups/sticky hold as their ability, it makes fishing a lot easier.

Thanks for the info about shiny.

Also, lol. You've both finished your challenge and I'm only at the second gym.

Can't wait for Pokemon Bank to come out. I need to store my team there for my Monotype run.

I was actually going to continue my water mono in Gold today. Next on my list to catch is Wooper, and that doesn't appear in the afternoon. I have to wait like two hours before I can go any further. :uhhuh:

When I was in desperate need for grinding, I went to the route under blackthorn and fought gravellers for like 5 hours to raise each of my pokemon only like 3 levels. I still lost against Claire too.

Yeah levels in johto games are really hard to get.

If it's SoulSilver, all I can suggest is somehow getting a Lucky Egg.
Either that, or just abandoning your team and running with one party member.
I totally wrecked HeartGold with my Heracross.
